In 2006 the Woodcraft Folk were hosts to youth groups from all over the world as the Global Village project started in earnest.

The project aims to empower young people to become actively involved in achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. The information and activities on this website are open to youth groups, schools, and young people everywhere. The Global Village project is being undertaken by the Woodcraft Folk on behalf of the International Falcon Movement (IFM-SEI).
Through the Global Village programme, young people will explore ways in which such a human-centred, democratic approach to future peace, development, and justice can be constructed by children and young people.

Global Village Youth Festival 2006 took place between 29 July - 9 August 2006. From across the planet, over 6000 people met for 10 days at the Kent Showground, near Maidstone. As well as an on-site local radio station and a daily paper, there was a video news broadcast most evenings. The media content and production was left mainly in the hands of the Festival participants (of any age). Please visit:
www.globalvillage2006.org/en/festival
for copies of the newspaper and the broadcast news.

(For the festival organisers (mainly people in their late teens or early twenties) they had one last problem - how to manage to get various delegations back to and through Heathrow airport at the start of a prolonged terrorist alert. Not an easy task when security forces are looking out for 'suspicious' foreign nationals, especially young adults)

To get a 'feel' for the event there is a final montage from GVTV (Global Village Television) at:
